Be a zero waste hero

Annie and I had a great meeting with the school’s principal, Brenda Weinstock, today. She is definitely an inspiration and a great support to the Green Dolphins. She came up with the idea of creating ‘zero waste heroes’….

BE A ZERO WASTE HERO

HOW?

PACK A WASTE-FREE LUNCH…

*USE RE-USABLE CONTAINERS FOR YOUR FOOD Avoid plastic bags, plastic wrap, aluminum foiL and prepackaged foods whenever possible.

*USE A REUSABLE LUNCH BOX Avoid disposable plastic and paper bags.

*USE A REFILLABLE DRINK BOTTLE Avoid single-use juice boxes, drink bottles, cans, and pouches whenever you can.

GET CAUGHT BEING GREEN

GREEN DOLPHINS WILL BE HANDING OUT GREEN TICKETS AT LUNCH. COLLECT 5 GREEN TICKETS AND YOU’LL GO INTO A DRAW TO WIN A GREAT PRIZE.

WHY?

LANDFILLS ACROSS NORTH AMERICA ARE REACHING CAPACITYNew landfills are built farther from the source of the waste, leading to increased disposal fees, truck traffic, air pollution, and wear and tear on local roads.

INCINERATORS CREATE AIR POLLUTIONIf your trash is incinerated, creating less trash will reduce the amount of harmful emissions in the air you breathe.

CHILDREN LEARN TO CARE FOR THE PLANETPacking a waste- free lunch is just one way that children can learn to REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE, AND COMPOST.

SCHOOLS SAVE MONEYMoney normally spent on waste hauling can be used in the classroom instead.
